What exactly is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is an university trained regulated allied healthcare profession that diagnoses, assesses, treats and prevents physical health conditions. Physiotherapists are specialists in human movement, pain relief and injury management. We use scientifically proven physical treatment modalities such as manual therapies, dry needling (western acupuncture), therapeutic exercises and taping techniques. These non-invasive and drug-free treatment techniques aim to help improve your movement and reduce your pain and stiffness.

Practicing physiotherapists are also expected to continue advance their clinical skills with formal training, and keep up to date with the latest evidence based research in their specialisation field.

Due to his love for the profession, our physiotherapist Barry Nguyen exceeds the minimum standard requirements of Continual Professional Development (CPD) by at least double the amount of hours on a yearly basis. He is also a highly regarded expert in emerging health technologies among the medical and allied health professions.

Barry is a highly trained award-winning musculoskeletal & sports physiotherapist in assessing and treating the underlying causes of muscle, nerve, ligament and joint injuries.

Barry's physiotherapeutic approach focuses on personalised education, soft tissue massage therapy, advanced manual therapy and exercise therapy.

For a large number of injuries, physiotherapy treatment can speed up your recovery process and improve your quality of life. Physiotherapy can often reduce your need for pain medication such as opioids ("codeine") and even prevent the need for an invasive medical procedure such as an injection or surgery.

At Acland Street Physiotherapy, we also incorporate the use digital mobile app technologies to help provide a better customer experience and personalisation. We routinely use the latest physio software to prescribe video based exercises, self-help tips and specific injury advice.
